Albany Highway to Dwellingup: 67km in 4 days

My daughter Elise gave me a lift and then walked with me for the first part of this section. She climbed Boonerring Hill but I decided to save my energy for the other hills in front of me
Rock pool near White Horse Hills
A reference tree from years ago - I kept missing them probably because I had my eyes looking at the ground in front of me
While sad that the tree has been burnt, I just love the form that remains
The two grass trees are not related. The tall one is a kingia and the smaller one the balga. I would never have known that if I hadn't done this walk
Climbing the last 300m to Mt Wells was one of the tougher sections I have done. Fortunately I still had energy to climb the old fire tower although you could only go to the first level, so not as good a view as what the "fire watchers" would have had
This is the only campsite which has four walls. It was where those manning the fire tower would live during summer. I have been told the place is haunted and I believe it - I am sure someone was trying to come in just after midnight
Sunset from Mt Wells lookout
A recently burnt out area near Mt Wells
Quite a contrast to the previous photo - a road and mining infrastructure was enough to stop the fire
One of the benefits is that you can sit in the dunny with the door wide open knowing that the chance of anyone seeing you is very remote
I do take some photos of flowers
The landscape is starting to change
That's the sort of path I like to see
Many paths are where rail lines used to run, but not many like this one with the rails still there.
Some of you may have seen this station if you have been on the Hotham Valley train - excited because it can't be far now to Dwellingup
Suddenly I am seeing a lot of reference trees
My reward for making it to Dwellingup
